Live Without Dental Pain with Dental Extractions

Extractions in Kew East, Melbourne

As dentists who are passionate about protecting smiles, the team at General and Cosmetic Dentistry strives to protect natural teeth as part of comprehensive dental care. In some cases, however, teeth can become infected or damaged beyond the scope of repair available with root canal treatment or restorative dentistry.

One of our principal dentists, Dr Baker Hamdi, is a skilled and experienced dental surgeon who provides dental extractions in our Kew East dental surgery for the convenience and health of our patients.

When an Extraction Becomes Necessary

Infection or Periodontal Disease

As with all areas of the body, teeth can develop an infection internally or externally. In some cases, we can treat infections with root canal therapy or periodontal treatments. Sometimes, however, if the infection is beyond treatment and the prognosis for the tooth is poor, an extraction may become necessary to protect the surrounding teeth and bone.

Severely Damaged Teeth

When we chew foods or grind our teeth at night, they can experience extreme force. Enamel, the protective covering on teeth, is the strongest substance in the body, but it is not immune to damage. We can often repair cracked teeth with dental crowns, but sometimes teeth have such severe damage that restorations are not possible.

Deep Decay

When detected early, decayed teeth may require a filling or crown. When decay progresses deep into the tooth, infection can develop. In some cases, severely decayed teeth may need to be removed to restore comfort and health.

Accidents or Trauma

Auto accidents, sports injuries, and unexpected trauma may lead to damage that requires an extraction.

Symptomatic Wisdom Teeth

Not all wisdom teeth require an extraction, but because of their location at the back of the mouth, wisdom teeth often cause pain due to overcrowding. They may also fail to erupt due to impaction – a condition characterized by growing in at an angle that prevents proper eruption.

A Wide Range of Surgical Services

Dr Baker Hamdi performs all types of extractions, including wisdom teeth, surgical extractions, and regular extractions. We prioritise patient comfort by completely anaesthetising the area before we begin
